Years Across Health & Mental Health
Experience spanning nursing, community mental health, alcohol and other drug services, trauma-informed practice and suicide postvention.
About Tina McGlinn
I give people language for the patterns that made them disappear from their own lives, then practical ways to reclaim their voice, choices and identity.
The person behind the work
I bring together lived experience, more than 25 years across nursing and mental health, senior leadership, and original thinking about how people lose connection with themselves.
I have worked beside people in some of the hardest moments of their lives. I have also led teams and complex services where decisions affect people, culture, safety and recovery.
Across both, I kept seeing the same overlooked pattern. Capable people learn to silence their needs, mistrust their judgement, shrink their voice or organise their identity around what keeps everyone else comfortable.
I call that pattern Self-Abandonment™. My work helps people recognise it, understand its cost and reclaim choice.
My story and the bigger idea
I have rebuilt after childhood trauma, domestic violence and breast cancer. I also know what it is to carry responsibility, navigate burnout and realise the life you built no longer feels like yours.
Those experiences taught me something important. People do not simply lose themselves in one dramatic moment. It often happens quietly, through repeated choices made for safety, belonging, responsibility or survival.
That is why my work is not about fixing people or asking them to invent a shinier version of themselves. It is about recognising where they left themselves behind and making the next choice differently.
Lived experience gives me insight. Professional experience gives me depth. The body of work turns both into something other people can use.
